Welcome to my website

My name is Aagje van den Heuvel, and I first discovered Dot Art in 2003 while living and working in Australia. At the time, I was employed as a dental hygienist in Arnhem Land — a remote region in the north, owned and governed by Aboriginal communities.

After work, I often visited the local art centre, where I was deeply inspired by the Aboriginal artists and their way of creating. Their use of dots — applied one by one in a calm, meditative rhythm — felt like a language of the soul. Every artwork was filled with care, presence, and intention. This abstract art form isn’t bound by rules or structure; it flows from pure emotion and energy. From that moment on, I fell in love with Dot Art.

Between 2014 and 2017, I worked several times in India. That country touched my heart in a different but equally profound way — through its rich colours, intricate patterns, and the spiritual beauty of mandalas. In India, everything is full of colour: the clothing, the food, and the ceremonial sand mandalas created during rituals and festivals. These life experiences continue to influence my work today.

My art is guided by feeling — by whatever moves me in the moment. Recently, I’ve begun combining traditional dotting with geometric lines and natural forms. These patterns reflect the rhythm and symmetry found in nature, and many people tell me my work evokes a sense of joy, peace, and coming home.

Geometry

Have you ever taken a moment to truly notice the beauty that nature offers us every single day? Geometric patterns are all around us, in leaves, shells, flowers and waves, without limits or boundaries. Nature inspires me with her lines, shapes, and flowing movements. In my art, I translate that inspiration into patterns of dots and forms that speak to something deep inside us. My and creations are an invitation to pause, breathe, and feel. Many people describe experiencing a blissful sense of coming home — a quiet joy, a peaceful connection.

The World of Dots offers art that speaks to the soul.

Life at Sea – Stories from My Motu

Three years ago, we traded land life for the open ocean and set sail aboard our sailboat My Motu. Since then, we've been living a life of freedom, adventure, and countless sunsets, exploring the world one island at a time.

Our journey has taken us across the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, and into the vast Pacific Ocean. Along the way, I’ve been sharing stories from our travels on our blog at svmymotu.com — reflections from life at sea, unforgettable encounters with marine life, island cultures, and the beauty (and chaos) of living full-time on a sailboat.

Inspired by our own leap into the unknown, I also wrote a book: Your Dream, Your Future. Make it happen. It’s a heartfelt guide to following your dreams, letting go of fear, and creating a life on your own terms.

The book is available in Dutch, English, and Hindi — and you can find it right here in the webshop on The World of Dots. Curious? Dive into our journey and let your own dreams set sail.
